Passport under 6 months validity? Your eVisa path stops here until you fix it

You opened the application form and saw the error—or worse, you only discovered the rule a week before departure. Vietnam, like many countries, expects at least six months of passport validity beyond your arrival date. A passport that expires in five months is not "close enough" for a two-week holiday.

We are a private visa assistance service—not the Government of Vietnam. We help travelers time applications after renewal; we cannot waive passport validity rules.

Why the six-month rule exists

Immigration wants assurance your document remains valid for your entire permitted stay and any unexpected extension or delay. Airlines enforce the same standard to avoid carrying passengers who may be refused at arrival.

The harsh truth: you cannot negotiate at the counter

Applications are often rejected automatically

Portals and reviewers flag passports that do not meet validity windows. Paying fees does not override the rule.

Airlines deny boarding on validity alone

Even with an eVisa approval, carriers can refuse you if passport validity on travel day falls short—including the day you come home on long trips if expiry is borderline.

An approved eVisa on an expiring passport is a trap

If you applied before noticing the dates, that approval may be useless. Do not fly hoping no one checks.

If you already applied on a short-validity passport

Before approval

Contact support if possible, but expect to renew the passport and reapply. Corrections rarely extend passport validity on an existing case.

After approval but before travel

Compare expiry on travel day again. If you are inside the six-month window at arrival, treat the approval as high-risk and renew before flying.

After you renewed your passport

You need a new eVisa tied to the new passport number. The old approval is not transferable.

Expedited renewal then eVisa: realistic timeline

Passport renewal times vary by country—from same-week appointments to several weeks by mail. Plan:

  1. Renew passport (expedited if available)
  2. Apply for eVisa with new bio page scan
  3. Allow within 5 business days for eVisa processing after complete submission

If renewal plus processing exceeds your departure date, change flights rather than gambling at the gate.

When you are flying within 72 hours

Prioritize passport office expedite channels first—without a valid passport, rush eVisa support cannot help. Once you hold the new passport, open a rush case for eVisa review. We target the fastest compliant turnaround once your new passport scan is ready.

Still stuck?

Note your passport expiry date, planned arrival date, and any reference number from a prior application. Then start a rush application after renewal or contact our support team for a realistic timeline before you travel.
