Your Vietnam eVisa photo was rejected—or your application is stuck because immigration flagged the upload. This is one of the most fixable visa problems if you act quickly: retake the portrait, resize correctly, and resubmit before your processing window expires.

We are a private visa assistance service—not the Government of Vietnam. Photo standards follow official eVisa rules. We help you format compliant files before submission.

Quick answer: rejected photo fixes

Rejection causeFast fix
Patterned or coloured backgroundPlain white sheet behind you; stand ~1 m away
Face too small in frameCrop tighter—full head and slight shoulders
Blurry or dark imageDaylight near a window; hold phone steady
Glasses glareRetake without glasses or tilt to remove reflection
Beauty filter / heavy editingTurn off all phone filters; use natural skin tone
Wrong file uploadedSeparate portrait from passport bio-page scan
File too large or wrong dimensionsResize to portal pixels; JPEG ~85% quality

Portrait photo vs passport scan (do not mix them up)

Most rejections come from uploading the wrong file type:

Upload slotSubmit this
Portrait / personal photoRecent studio-style headshot—not the photo printed inside your passport
Passport scanFull colour bio page with MRZ lines, holograms, all four corners

Swapping these files is an automatic fail on many portals.

Retake your portrait in five minutes

  1. Hang a white or off-white sheet on a wall
  2. Stand facing the camera at eye level—no selfie angle from below
  3. Use even daylight; avoid one-sided shadows
  4. No filters, hats (unless religious covering with full face visible), or sunglasses
  5. Export to the exact pixel size shown on the upload screen
  6. Compare your face to your passport photo—if you grew a beard or changed hair dramatically, immigration may flag a mismatch

Glasses and head coverings

  • Prescription glasses: sometimes accepted if lenses are clear and glare-free; when in doubt, retake without
  • Religious head coverings: permitted when the full face is visible from hairline to chin

Children and infants

Babies need their own compliant photo—parents cannot use a selfie with the child. See /faq/children-visa-vietnam for infant framing tips.

Fix your passport bio-page scan

  • Lay passport flat on a dark surface
  • Photograph straight-on—not at an angle
  • All four corners visible; no fingers covering data
  • MRZ lines (bottom two rows of chevrons) must be sharp and readable
  • Use colour—not black-and-white filter

Blurry MRZ scans cause delays even when the portrait is perfect.

After rejection: resubmit vs new application

  • Fix the specific issue noted in the email
  • Upload within the stated deadline—pending clocks may pause until you respond
  • Keep the same reference number

Full rejection with no correction path

  • Prepare new portrait and passport scan before paying again
  • Double-check name and passport number against MRZ on /apply
  • Select Urgent or Super Urgent if your flight is soon

Contact support before paying twice—see stuck processing guide.

Indian and high-volume applicants: extra photo tips

Indian passport holders face high application volume—photo quality scrutiny is strict. Common failures:

  • Selfies with ceiling fans or furniture in background
  • Passport scan cropped too tight on MRZ
  • Name on form not matching passport romanization

See /check-requirement/india for nationality-specific guidance.

Prevention checklist before you pay

  • Portrait background plain white/off-white
  • Face occupies adequate frame—not tiny in corner
  • JPEG under size cap at required pixels
  • Passport scan separate file, MRZ readable
  • No filters or sunglasses
  • Name fields match passport MRZ
